The pedigree is, in simple terms, a table that gives the exact identification of the animal. The father’s name is listed above, the mother’s name is listed below. By studying the table, we get among the ancestors up to the fourth generation. Here we will find out their names, colour, achieved exhibition title, and last but not least, the chip number, which is now mandatory for breeding animals.
If we want to search history, we can go much further from the pedigrees of fourth-generation ancestors. In the certificate of origin, we also find the so-called EMS code, it is an abbreviation for the breed and colour of the animal. In the certificate of origin, we will also find information about the breeder and owner of the animal. It must be recalled, that the certificate of origin is an authentic instrument and its falsification, alteration or misuse is a criminal offense.
Kittens with a Certificate of origin can only be bred with cats, that have the Certificate of origin. The aim of breeding cats with a Certificate of origin is not only to achieve a quality appearance of the cat, but also an effort to influence the character of the cat and, last but not least, to eliminate health and genetic disorders from breeding. Cats that do not meet the breed standard, animals with health problems, or aggressive individuals are excluded from breeding so that they cannot pass these errors on to their offspring.
A conscientious breeder sells only the best animals from a given litter. The breeder must also have found breeding facility, where he then registers the kittens of individual litters. The breeding facility name then becomes part of the kitten’s name. The first letter of the cat’s name tells again about the litter from which the kitten comes.
When buying a kitten, find out about the breeding service, that you get with the kitten. Many breeders offer so-called lifelong breeding service. New kitten owners can contact our breeding facility at any time, we are always available to them and we remain in contact with them even after the kitten leaves for a new home. We are very happy to see how it grows in the new environment, how it is doing. Friendships are formed between us and the new owners. The cats introduced us to people we would probably never have met otherwise, and we are grateful to them for that. You may say that every kitten is beautiful and even a cat without a pedigree will make you happy. You’re right, but in this case, I see no reason to buy a half-British and half ragdoll, when the cat shelters are bursting at the seams. So, if you really don’t care what breed you have at home, make at least one shelter cat happy. I live in a village, so I see all around me that there are a lot of homeless cats that would do their best to have their own background, loving environment and still full bowls.
